Hours: 35 hrs/wk. Range: $21.00 per hour Location: 30 College St., Toronto

Classification: Full-Time Contract (April 1- March 31, 2026) Position: Internship NON-BU

Summary:

Native Child and Family Services of Toronto strives to provide a life of quality, well-being, caring and healing for our children and families in the Toronto Indigenous Community. We do this by creating a service model that is culture- based and respects the values of Native people, the extended family, and the right to self-determination and through the integration of holistic, culturally based prevention services that are child centred, family focused, and community driven.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Program planning and resource gathering.
  • Promoting agency programs, special events and initiatives.
  • Providing reception coverage.
  • Scheduling and documentation of meetings, circles, events.
  • Assisting Culture Days programming.
  • Assisting with the purchasing/inventory/distribution of Indigenous Sacred Medicines.
  • Preparing kits for various programs and initiatives.
  • Assisting with land-based cultural programming by assisting with the site logistics, set up, and tear down.
  • Supporting Knowledge Carriers and Elders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:

  • Potential candidates must be registered or eligible to register with Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training. The successful candidate will need to complete Miziwe Biik’s Client Registration and Ancestry Information forms.
  • Must be First Nations, Inuit or Metis and reside within the Greater Toronto Area
  • Awareness of the unique dynamics that exist within the First Nations, Inuit, and Metis cultures.
  • A thorough understanding of Indigenous teachings and ceremonies.
  • Excellent knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Respect for confidentiality.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Hands on experience using a virtual meeting platform, such as MS Teams or Zoom.
  • A willingness to obtain and pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
  • Post Secondary education/work experience in a related field preferred.
