The Marketing and Communications Officer is accountable for the planning, development and implementation of the organization’s marketing strategies and communications in order for Miziwe Biik to achieve its mission of providing training and employment services to the Aboriginal peoples in the Greater Toronto Area so that they attain a better quality of life.
Responsibilities
Manage overall marketing and communications planning focused on implementing resources, tools, and research to further support each department and the whole organization
Working with Miziwe Biik departments, identify opportunities to assess and integrate innovative solutions for effective marketing and communications on upcoming projects and events
Oversee projects and large-scale communications plans from conception to completion within each department, providing supports with external communications, graphic design and digital content campaigns to market the numerous programs offered by the organization
Oversee and implement marketing and communications support for project-based communications plans including external and internal newsletters, blogs, annual reports, brochures, publications, signage, etc.
Recommend, develop, and maintain internal communications within departments
Provide communications supports on digital content training, best practices, key messaging and an on-brand style guide
Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing initiatives for each project with a range of measurement tools including social media analytics, feedback surveys, and post-project evaluations with project teams
Collaborate with staff, volunteers, event organizers, media, and others to leverage brand and achieve promotional synergies and maintain positive ongoing relations and marketing opportunities
Implement and develop branded marketing assets for departments to utilize in the outreach to Aboriginal clients and Miziwe Biik’s services to employers in the GTA
Identify publications and external communication outlets to utilize in outreach purposes to promote the hiring of Aboriginal employees as well as Miziwe Biik services
Implement social media marketing strategy for Miziwe Biik’s brand on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and other social media platforms to market the numerous programs offered by the organization
Liaise and network with partner agencies as Miziwe Biik to learn about current operations in other agencies and gather information to report back to the Executive Director
Oversee and manage the administration, maintenance and support for Miziwe Biik’s website and Intranet including asset up-keep, content management, and backend support
Oversee all marketing materials, including creating, editing and proofing, to be mass distributed to Miziwe Biik clients, employers and the GTA Aboriginal community pertaining to employment or training opportunities
Develop and publish stories and content across a range of print materials, digital and social channels and ensures integration of storytelling content across all communications channels (web, e-news, blogs and social) through management of an editorial calendar
Oversee Annual General Meeting report from conception to completion report and supports with day-of event planning
Work with teams to solicit input and feedback on all materials developed
Oversee all external communication from Miziwe Biik to ensure proper brand colours, fonts, tone, and style
Qualifications
Diploma or degree from Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Web Design/Development or related program
Two to five years in marketing and communications in a not for profit environment
Demonstrated experience in strategic marketing and communications planning
Demonstrated experience in branding communications
Extensive experience working with photographers, designers, media, printers and other suppliers
Experience with mobile, online interactive and social media tools, techniques and best practices
Experience working with different web technologies to update and maintain websites
Excellent grammar, editing and proofing skills
Good knowledge of the GTA Aboriginal community and the employment and training needs and aspirations
First Nations, Métis or Inuit background
