JOB SUMMARY - The Registered Practical Nurse provides support services and, where deemed appropriate, services that are clinical in nature to the elderly and persons with disabilities in the comfort of their own home and community.
Education and Experience:
• Must have a college diploma in Registered Practical Nursing and be registered in the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Have a Foot Care Nursing Certificate or partially completed foot care courses.
Knowledge:
• Familiarity and knowledge of Family Centred Care Approach.
• Familiarity with MCFN social and health services principles, policy, and other service resources
• Solid background in computers with specific knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of electronic medical records.
Skills/Abilities:
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must be able to work independently and willing to contribute to a team environment.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends.
• Ability to work cooperatively with other staff and management.
• Ability to relate effectively to community members.
Other Requirements:
• Must have a satisfactory result from a Criminal Record Check including a vulnerable sector check.
• First Aid and CPR certification
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to upgrade to a Class “F” license.
Assets:
• Diabetes, Palliative Care Certificates, and/or Gentle Persuasive Approaches Training Certificate.
• Two years’ experience or more in practical nursing field
• Knowledge of Personal Health Information Privacy Act and Long-Term Care Act
• Member of the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario
• Safe Food Handling Certificate
