Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Administration Services, the Administrative Program Support Worker Trainee will provide administrative and program support to various departments within the agency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support on and off-site agency events, programs, cultural ceremonies.
  • Prepare craft supplies and kits for upcoming events.
  • Order traditional medicines and keep inventory of supplies.
  • Package and prepare medicine orders for staff and groups.
  • Harvest medicines from rooftop garden.
  • Assist with land-based cultural programming, site logistics, set up, and tear down.
  • Provide support to Elders, Knowledge Carriers, and Cultural Resource Workers.
  • Design and distribute outreach materials, both virtual and print material.
  • Promote agency programs, special events and initiatives within the Indigenous Community.
  • Support with staff calendars, scheduling appointments.
  • Compile/input data for statistical reporting.
  • Gather resources.
  • Assist with virtual video conferencing platforms (MS Team and Zoom).
  • Screen and respond to general phone and email inquiries.
  • Type, from written or dictated information, a variety of material, such as memos, letters, reports, schedules, appointment lists, recordings and minutes.
  • Assist in preparing various types of correspondence including incoming/outgoing mail, memos, letters, reports, schedules, etc.
  • Scan/copy/fax documents.
  • Purchase and prepare food for groups, meetings, and events.
  • Deliver supplies to community members.
  • Other duties, as required.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements

Potential candidates must be registered or eligible to register with Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training.

Applicants for this role must be First Nations, Inuit or Metis and reside within the Greater Toronto Area.

Preferred Skills/Capabilities

  • A thorough understanding of Indigenous teachings and ceremonies.
  • Great organizational skills, ability to multitask, initiative and respect for confidentiality.
  • An understanding of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Knowledge of local community resources.
  • Valid Safe Food Handlers and CPR/First Aid, an asset, but not required.
  • G class driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle, an asset, but not required.

Work Environment:

  • Standard office environment; minimal physical demands.
