V Position Summary:
The Children and Early Adolescents Development Coordinator is a professional-level role
responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating culturally grounded programs aimed at
supporting Indigenous children and early adolescents aged 7 to 14. This position integrates social
work-informed and trauma-informed approaches to foster cultural identity, holistic wellness, and
educational success. The coordinator serves as a vital bridge between adolescence, families,
schools, and community partners to deliver coordinated services that honor Indigenous traditions
and promote healing, resilience, and connection. This role involves advocacy, direct support, and
community engagement rooted in Indigenous values and contemporary realities.
VI Duties and Responsibilities:
The Children and Early Adolescents Development Coordinator must be able to address
needs and services of Indigenous children (7 – 14 years). The coordinator will incorporate
traditional cultural teachings and values that are intrinsic to the Indigenous concept of the good life,
ensuring that programming and community engagement reflect the wisdom, practices, and spiritual
foundations of Indigenous ways of knowing. By honoring and integrating these cultural teachings,
the coordinator will help foster a sense of identity, connection, and holistic well-being, supporting
individuals and communities in living balanced, meaningful lives in harmony with their heritage and
the natural world.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leads the planning, development, promotion and delivery of programming, services, special
events, volunteer activities, and supervision of Indigenous children between the ages of 7
and 14.

• Planning, delivery and reporting of activities, documenting all participants interactions,
progress towards goals, and program outcomes in keeping with the organization’s policies
and procedures.
• Serve as a liaison and build partnerships with schools, educators, families, and community
agencies to deliver coordinated social and cultural supports.
• Provide individual and group social work–informed support, including advocacy, referrals,
and crisis intervention, addressing complex child and family needs.
• Mentor participants in developing life skills such as responsibility, leadership, and
maintaining a safe, respectful environment.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate culturally grounded programs that support the holistic
well-being, identity, and growth of Indigenous participants.
• Incorporate and/or facilitate traditional teachings, ceremonies, and talking circles as part of
programming to foster cultural connection, healing, and community belonging.
• Advocate within educational, social, and community systems to reduce barriers and
enhance youth access to services.
• Develop a work plan to support participants in completing their education.
• Develop and plan for a drop-in program designed for children and early adolescents aged 7
to 14.
• Develop monthly schedule/action plans for activities. For example: plan and schedule
weekly recreational and physical activities.
• Monitor program progress and implementation.
• Oversee and/or mentor youth in life-skills such as maintaining the drop in space in an
orderly and clean manner.
• Responsible for compiling and submitting reports to the Executive Director.
• Accurately track quarterly statistics of participation levels and funder deliverables.
• Actively connect and engage youth participants in broader NCCT programs and cultural
activities to foster community belonging, cultural continuity, and holistic development.
• Other duties as identified by the Executive Director.
VII Qualifications:
• A degree in Social Work.
• Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
(OCSWSSW) is considered an asset.
• Strong understanding of holistic wellness and harm reduction principles; related
certifications are considered an asset.
• Experience with working with Indigenous communities.
• Understanding of Indigenous cultures.
• Knowledge of and direct experience with Indigenous traditions, ceremonies, talking circles
and cultural protocols.
• Proven leadership abilities demonstrated through self-directed initiative and strong
motivation to achieve program goals.

• Knowledgeable about health, social and economic influences impacting Indigenous people.
• Knowledge of social, cultural and recreational needs and interests of children and
adolescents.
• Must have the ability to develop and implement activities that increase academic
confidence.
• Ability to work professionally, collaboratively with youth and their families as well as
community and agency personnel
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage, coordinate, and facilitate
group activities.
• Strong organizational skills, ensuring efficient planning, scheduling, and documentation of
programs and activities.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of clearly conveying
information to diverse audiences.
• Computer proficiency
• Valid G Class driver’s license in good standing; driver’s abstract is required.
• A valid CPIC and VSS is required
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or
territorial legislation and regulations.
VIII Working Conditions:
This position requires a person able to work in special conditions such as evenings and/or
weekends, outdoors, and with community members with complex needs and a varied range of dual
diagnosis issues such as mental health, addictions, developmental disabilities and so forth.
IX Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit for extended periods in an office environment.
• Ability to travel to partnerships with schools, educators, and/or community agencies.
• Able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.

This is a full-time position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and budget ranges.
Although preference will be given to Indigenous applicants (First Nations, Metis and Inuit),
