 FNTI is a First Nation-mandated, not-for-profit, and registered charitable organization, and is accredited by the Indigenous Advanced Education and Skills Council (IAESC). 

 Since the Indigenous Institute Act, 2017, FNTI has been diligently working to launch independent degree programs, developed and to be accredited by Indigenous people, for Indigenous people.

 Description:  

The Bachelor of Health Sciences in Indigenous Midwifery program is seeking a Clinical Lead with deep clinical expertise and a commitment to Indigenous health and education. This individual will play a pivotal role in developing the clinical curriculum and translating the National Council of Indigenous Midwives (NCIM) and Canadian Association of Midwifery Education Program (CAMEd) competencies into clear and measurable Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA), the current gold standard in competency-based medical education. The Clinical Lead will ensure that the EPA workbooks designed are aligned with Indigenous midwifery models of care and culturally safe clinical education. 

The Clinical Lead will work collaboratively with Indigenous midwifery educators, community partners, curriculum specialists, and accreditation bodies to ensure the program reflects Indigenous values, knowledge systems, and professional standards. 

 Responsibilities:  

 Curriculum Development: 

  • Lead the design and writing of the clinical curriculum within the Bachelor of Health Sciences in Indigenous Midwifery program. 
  • Ensure alignment with Indigenous andragogies, community-based midwifery practices, and regulatory standards. 
  • Collaborate with program stakeholders to reflect culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and competent approaches to care. 
  • Collaborate with midwifery advisor, curriculum specialists, program manager, PAC members, and accreditation office to ensure relevance, coherence and integrability of material developed. 

 EPA Workbook Development: 

  •  Lead the creation and implementation of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) workbooks to support competency-based clinical learning. 
  • Define and validate EPAs relevant to Indigenous midwifery practice. 
  • Develop assessment tools and guidance for preceptors and learners using the EPA framework. 
  • Ensure that EPA materials are accessible, culturally appropriate, and reflective of Indigenous midwifery models of care. 

Stakeholder Collaboration and Quality Assurance: 

  • Support relationship development with clinical and relational sites for learner’s clerkships, in collaboration with midwifery advisor, program manager, curriculum specialists and IEL office.  
  • Facilitate feedback sessions, and consultation meetings to guide curriculum and EPA development. 
  • Recommend continuous improvements based on stakeholder feedback. 
  • Collaborate on the accreditation submission, as needed.  

 Qualifications:  

Required: 

  • Midwife with at least 5 years of clinical experience. 
  • Significant experience in Indigenous midwifery practice and/or Indigenous education. 
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous worldviews, cultural safety, and decolonial approaches to healthcare education. 
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and/or educational leadership. 
  • Familiarity with competency-based education and EPA frameworks. 

Preferred: 

  • Master’s degree in Health Sciences, Education, or a related field. 
  • Experience working in an Indigenous post-secondary education. 
  • Knowledge of accreditation requirements for midwifery education programs. 
  • Experience collaborating with Indigenous communities and/or organizations.

Conditions of Employment:  

  • Willing and able to travel on occasion as well as work overtime as required.  
  • Successful candidates must provide a satisfactory Criminal Records and Judicial Matters, Level 2 Check.
