About Us

The “Eshkiniigjik Naandwechigegamig - A Place for Healing Our Youth" – “Aabiish Gaa Binjibaaying – Where Did We Come From?” is an Indigenous Youth Agency dedicated to providing programming and services to support Indigenous youth in North America.

Under the direct supervision of the Youth Program Manager the Recreational Coordinator will be responsible for the following: 

  • Plan, create and coordinate daily recreational activities that promotes healthy opportunities for youth between ages 12 - 29 yrs
  • Must collaborate with each other and the youth programming to create a recreational program calendar.
  • Collaborate with local Indigenous communities, elders, and organizations to ensure that recreational programming is culturally appropriate and meets the needs of the community.
  • Contact and book with the City of Toronto for facility access when needed
  • Ensure the recreation programs provide healthy nutrition.
  • Supervise and mentor volunteers and staff involved in recreation programming, providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Conduct needs assessments and analyze community programs and recreation program needs, in consultation with community members and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement a recreation work plan to meet strategic goals and community desires, in consultation with community youth.
  • Perform administrative functions related to recreation programming.
  • Stay informed about current trends, resources, and best practices in Indigenous youth development and recreational programming.
  • Attend Youth Council Meetings (when required).
  • Engage directly with youth to encourage participation in activities.
  • Collaborate with the team to create a positive, supportive atmosphere.
  • Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Adhere to ENAGB Youth Program policies and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Possible weekend work from time to time Changes to work hours to accommodate planned ENAGB events
  • Attendance at Monthly All‑Team Staff Meeting
  • Participation in outreach activities as require
  • Other related duties as it relates to ENAGB

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure/Sport Services and/or minimum 2 years of experience in the recreation field with a focus on Indigenous youth
  • Must have extensive knowledge of Indigenous (Inuit, Metis or First Nation) history/background. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Adequate energy and ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
  • A valid Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • A cleared Criminal Reference check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • A positive, fun-loving attitude.

Compensation and Location

  • Salary: $30 per hour
  • Hours: 37.5 hours/week, Sunday to Thursday
  • Position Type: Full-time, Permanent
  • Location: Toronto, ON
