Financial Analyst - Winter Coop - 2027

This role will be based in Waterloo.
Role Summary:
The Segregated Funds' Financial Management (SFFM) team within Group Retirement Services Finance is responsible for the daily valuation, accounting control, and financial reporting for over 500 Segregated Funds.
The Financial Analyst – Co-op will be responsible for the preparation of year-end tax and financial statement reporting for SFFM. This role will provide the student the opportunity to learn about segregated funds within an insurance company. In addition it will provide exposure to preparing IFRS financial statements and notes for the segregated funds’ annual report and reconciliations. The role will also allow the student to further develop critical thinking skills and professional judgement in evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of internal financial reporting controls.
Main Accountabilities:
- Preparation of tax forms for over 300 segregated funds, which includes reconciling tax information provided by the fund manager to the distribution amounts recorded on the sub-ledger.
- Preparation of over 250 segregated fund financial statements in accordance with IFRS, which includes assistance in understanding and preparing note disclosures
- Perform other year-end tax and financial statement functions, including preparing audit working papers.
- Provide assistance with monthly and quarterly reporting requirements, which includes several reconciliations and corporate and regulatory reporting.
- Participate in the production of the audited financial statements for the Segregated Funds Annual Report.
- Identify, analyze and report on deficiencies in the control environment and implement new controls or processes to improve efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Completion of at least 2 years of a post-secondary business degree program.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Self-motivated and adaptable.
