Position Description:
Reporting to the Food Services Coordinator, the Relief Food Services Worker is primarily responsible for assisting in the production and delivery of healthy and attractive meals to clients at different sites of St. Michael’s Homes to aid in their recovery from the impact of addictions.
The Relief Food Services Worker assists with all Food Services activities, including inventorying, receiving, storing, cooking, disposing, and cleaning.
The Relief Food Services Worker complies with applicable food safety policies and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Assists the Food Services Coordinator in the execution of his/her duties
Assists in menu planning
Assists with weekly inventory, ordering and receiving of foodstuffs and dry goods for all sites
Cooking, portioning, wrapping, labelling, transporting meals and dry goods to other sites
Thorough daily cleaning
Models best practices in Food Services and articulates these to Food Services Staff and trainees, and other staff and clients
Occasional supervision of volunteers
Other duties as required
Qualifications
Minimum G2 driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract to drive company van
Two years’ experience in restaurant, catering or institutional cooking
Possess basic computer skills, specifically in Microsoft 365 environment.
Awareness and appreciation of client needs specific to the addictions and mental health field
Completion of standard staff training modules
Food Handler Certification
Experience batch cooking for large groups
Can cook without a recipe to incorporate donated ingredients
Ability to make substitutions for standard allergies and cultural/religious avoidances
Working Conditions
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg)
Comfortable working in a transitional housing environment and engaging with clients
Ability to attend scheduled meetings and participate in team discussions
Salary: $52,000
