DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for supporting the functions within the Clinical Equipment Department..
- Responsible for supporting the established procedures to ensure that the equipment is cleaned, laundered, and in good working order.
- Assist with the tracking of any rental equipment and with the exchange to our owned equipment as soon as it is available. This involves assisting with the maintenance of a data base for equipment, distribution, tracking, retrieval, and utilization of the equipment within the hospital
- Ensures that the central storage area is kept clean and tidy
- Responds to requests from patient care units for a Specialty Bed or Therapeutic Surface. Delivers and sets up the equipment to the patient care units.
- Responds to requests from patient care units to retrieve the equipment from the nursing unit upon patient discharge or upon discontinuing of equipment.
- Follows established procedures to have the equipment cleaned and returned to the central storage area. This includes delivering equipment to the central laundry department and picking up cleaned items from the laundry department.
- Works closely with the biomedical department, maintenance departments, and external vendors to coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs of the equipment.
- Assists external vendors, and maintains an excellent working relationship
- Responds to requests from patient care units for rental of Specialty Beds that are not owned by SMH. Assists with ordering equipment from external vendor. Ensures that the equipment is returned to external vendor when it is no longer required.
- Answers inquiries from the other members of the health care team on how to operate the Specialty Beds, Pressure Relief Surfaces, and other equipment that is in the Central Equipment Dept.
- Participates in training programs as required to learn the full functioning capacity and trouble shooting skills required for all existing equipment and for any equipment purchased by the department.
- Communicates to the charge nurse and/or the primary nurse (or delegate) when the equipment has been delivered and set up for the patient and similarly when the equipment is removed from the unit
- Ensures that the equipment is clearly marked as belonging to the Central Equipment Dept. and replaces identification tags as required
- Other duties as assigned
Hours: 0800-1600 Monday-Friday
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated oral, written, and English language reading skills required.
- Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) are required
- Well developed organizational skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment and prioritize tasks appropriately.
- Excellent customer service record with proven success in working in a team environment.
- Ability to use telephone equipment, communication devices (such as pagers, radios, headsets) fax, hand held computer, computer.
- Basic Computer experience (Excel, Windows, E-mail, Word, ERP systems).
