As this position is funded by a grant, participants need to identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) and must be currently residing within the Greater Toronto Area.
Summary of Function:
Reporting to the Manager, School Visits, the Indigenous Education Coordinator Trainee will support Indigenous content delivery in Education programs. Responsibilities include administrative and programming tasks such as program registration, materials preparation, and delivery of Indigenous Studies programs. The role also involves contributing to program renewal, assisting with Summer Camp programming, and curating a monthly internal email highlighting Indigenous events and initiatives. Additionally, the trainee will collaborate with other departments for personal and professional development.
DUTIES
Planning & Execution
Able to support the daily delivery of School Visits program onsite at Harbourfront Centre
Able to participate in job shadowing, training and teaching of programs in Indigenous Studies portfolio; with the possibility to explore training in other artistic disciplines as per the program needs
Able to work with the School Visits team to refine existing programs in Indigenous Studies and/or other disciplines
Assist with the Camps team to support the delivery of various Summer Camps programs
Content Development
Develop training resources to support School Visits Educators in their understanding and connection to Indigenous content
Support development for our Indigenous resources for School Visits programs
Assist Education staff in development of Indigenous Studies programming
Review and refine Indigenous content in all School Visits programs with a critical lens to program positioning and content
Support School Visits team in the development of Special Programs and/or ad-hoc programming that responds to the needs of the division and organization
Administration
Provide exceptional customer service to all visiting school groups, teachers, students, campers and/or camp families
Support the Registrar, School Visits in processing of School Visits registrations through our Artifax database
Prepare weekly School Visits program schedules and participate in planning meetings
Able to prepare a monthly report to Miziwe Biik, outlining tasks, key skill development and hours worked as per the agreement for this position
Communications
Able to communicate verbally and in writing with teachers to ensure they are prepared and supported before, during and after the delivery of programming (online and onsite)
Able to respond to the needs of visiting school groups through clear verbal and written communication
Able to curate a monthly internal email highlighting Indigenous events and initiatives
Willing to liaise with departments and outside groups to support implementation and renewal of Education programs with Indigenous content
REQUIREMENTS
Experience in post-secondary education in a field such as education, the arts, administration, or a related field, or have equivalent experience
Experience or interest in working with children and youth, particularly in a not for profit or arts-based setting
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently with patrons, staff, and volunteers
Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and manage daily responsibilities effectively
Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work in a team environment
Comfortable using phones and proficient in common computer programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel, email, printers, and laminators)
Able to ensure student safety during an emergency procedure - A Criminal Background Check (with Vulnerable Sector Screening) is required
