on Indigenous cultural traditions and teachings.
Job Title: Legal Coordinator
Employment Term & Work Hours: 2 Year Contract, 40 hours per week
Department: Executive Department
Reporting to: Executive Director
Position Summary:
The Legal Coordinator will support the organization in navigating legal matters, maintaining compliance,
liaising with external legal counsel, and supporting community-based legal initiatives. This role involves
coordinating legal documentation, supporting internal governance processes, and ensuring the
organization’s operations are aligned with both Canadian law and Indigenous legal traditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Support & Compliance
● Coordinate legal aspects of organizational operations including contracts, MOUs, funding
agreements, and policies.
● Maintain records of legal documents, filings, and governance materials.
● Monitor compliance with federal, provincial/territorial, and Indigenous laws and regulations
● Assist in developing and reviewing internal policies to reflect both legal compliance and
Indigenous values.
Governance
● Support the governance bodies (e.g., Board of Directors, Elders’ Councils) with legal
documentation and coordination.
● Support the Executive team in monitoring legislative changes and/or assess their applicability to
the organization.
● Support integration of Indigenous laws and protocols into organizational practices and
agreements.
Advocacy & Legal Coordination
● Assist in preparing legal research, briefing notes, and submissions to governance or legal
bodies.Ensure high quality of legal work in an effective manner.
● Record data and produce reports as required
● Liaise with external legal counsel, ensuring timely and competent communication.
● Other duties and administrative tasks as assigned by the Executive.
Qualifications:
● Diploma or degree in Legal Studies, Paralegal, Law.
● Member in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada.
● Demonstrated knowledge and experience of relevant employment law legislation.
● Previous experience in employment law is preferred.
● 2–3 years experience in paralegal work, or law.
● Excellent interpersonal, communication skills.
● Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
● Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
● Ability to work well as a team.
● Must have a valid driver’s license.
● Demonstrated interest in aboriginal legal issues.
● Training or advocacy experience in relation to mental health issues.
● An organized and detail-oriented multi-tasker.
● Excellent word processing skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google) Adobe, Zoom and Teams.
Working Conditions:
● Occasional travel may be required.
● May involve flexible hours depending on organizational and governance needs such as attending
Board meetings.

This is a full-time position, salary to commensurate with qualifications and experience. Although
preference will be given to Indigenous applicants (First Nations, Metis and Inuit), all qualified candidates
