Groundskeeper / Maintenance Hand
Position Summary
The Groundskeeper / Maintenance Hand is responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness, safety, appearance, and basic operational condition of the property grounds and building systems. This role supports day-to-day building operations through general maintenance, minor repairs, seasonal property care, and preventative maintenance tasks to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for tenants, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Groundskeeping & Exterior Maintenance
- Maintain exterior grounds including lawns, walkways, parking areas, and common outdoor spaces.
- Perform seasonal duties including:
- Snow removal and salting/de-icing
- Lawn mowing, trimming, and edging
- Leaf collection and debris removal
- Garden and landscape upkeep
- Remove garbage, litter, and bulk items from exterior areas.
- Monitor grounds for safety hazards and report concerns promptly.
General Building Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections of building common areas and mechanical spaces.
- Assist with preventative maintenance programs.
- Replace filters, check lighting, and maintain common-area equipment.
- Support unit turnovers including cleaning, minor repairs, and preparation for occupancy.
Cleaning & Property Care
- Maintain cleanliness of hallways, stairwells, laundry rooms, and shared spaces.
- Ensure garbage and recycling areas remain clean and organized.
- Assist with waste collection coordination and bulk item removal.
Safety & Compliance
- Identify and report maintenance issues, hazards, or damages.
- Follow workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
- Use tools and equipment safely and maintain them in good working order.
- Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
Tenant & Team Support
- Interact respectfully with tenants and staff.
- Provide courteous assistance while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Support management with special projects and property improvements as required.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience in building maintenance, groundskeeping, or property operations preferred.
- Basic knowledge of building systems and repair techniques.
- Ability to safely operate maintenance tools and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physically capable of lifting, bending, and performing outdoor work in various weather conditions.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license (Required).
- Ability to perform snow removal duties outside regular hours when required.
- Criminal record check required.
- WHMIS and basic safety training considered an asset.
Working Conditions
- Combination of indoor and outdoor work.
- Exposure to weather conditions and physical labour.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work for emergencies or seasonal operations.
- May be offered on-call rotational schedule
Pay: $19.00-$22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25.0 – 35per week
