Maintenance Technician

Under the supervision of the Senior Operations Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safe operation of all manufacturing, packaging, utility, and facility equipment. This hands-on role supports production objectives through proactive preventive maintenance, timely troubleshooting, equipment improvement initiatives, and strict adherence to GMP, Quality, and Health & Safety requirements.

Value of this role & Core Responsibilities

Equipment Inspection & Reliability

• Conduct routine inspections of production, packaging, utility, and facility equipment to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and reliability risks.
• Report equipment conditions and recommend corrective actions to support safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
• Help maintain equipment performance to meet production, quality, and GMP standards.
  
  

Maintenance, Troubleshooting & Repairs

• Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and adjustments on production and facility equipment.
• Respond to maintenance requests and equipment breakdowns, prioritizing work based on safety, quality, and operational impact.
• Repair and maintain mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, plumbing, and facility systems within scope of training.
• Complete equipment cleaning, adjustments, and corrective maintenance activities as required.

Documentation & Inventory Management

• Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection logs, work orders, and GMP documentation.
• Track and report parts, materials, and maintenance activities.
• Assist with spare parts inventory management and recommend critical stock levels.
  
  

Contractor & Vendor Coordination

• Coordinate external contractors, service providers, and fabrication vendors as needed.
• Ensure all third-party work complies with site safety, GMP, quality, and housekeeping standards.

Health, Safety, Quality & Compliance

• Adhere to all Health & Safety policies, GMP requirements, and quality standards, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
• Identify and report safety hazards, equipment risks, and quality concerns.
• Support investigations into equipment failures, recurring issues, and safety incidents.

Continuous Improvement & Production Support

• Analyze recurring equipment issues and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, uptime, safety, and efficiency.
• Participate in equipment upgrades, process improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support production operations and perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• Technical College Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Maintenance, or Electro-Mechanical Technology is preferred.
• Forklift, scissor lift, working at heights, First Aid, and Lockout/Tagout training are considered assets.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience involving production equipment, facility systems, or industrial machinery.
• Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Hands-on experience using hand tools, power tools, lubrication equipment, electrical meters, and testing devices.
• Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, technical drawings, basic electrical schematics, and mechanical layouts.
• Experience using a CMMS, maintenance work order system, or structured maintenance reporting process is preferred.
• Experience in GMP, quality-controlled, food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical, or household products manufacturing is considered an asset.
• Strong contractor management and communication skills.

• Flexible and willing to work extended hours, weekend overtime, or emergency call-in support when required.
• Ability to work in an active manufacturing environment with machinery, noise, dust, production materials, and varying temperatures.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work around equipment for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs, as required and in accordance with safe work practices.
• Ability to work at heights, in confined or restricted spaces, and around energized or moving equipment only when properly trained and authorized.
• Required to wear applicable personal protective equipment and follow all site safety procedures.
