Job Description: The Summer Student Trainee will work closely with the Four Winds Wellness program run by the Centre. They will help support the program which runs on a weekly basis, help with program planning and prep, as well as help Elders at West Neighborhood House. This position incumbent will also be asked to assist with other programs such as the Diabetes, Garden Group & the Harm Reduction Program running out of the Centre.
Responsibilities:
- Support Four Winds Wellness programs (setting up, planning, running activities, etc.)
- Assist in developing cultural activities
- Maintenance and care of garden
- Maintenance of the community kitchen including food purchasing and cooking
- Assist in other health promotion activities or other programs as required
Qualifications:
- Experience of working in wellness programs (through paid employment or volunteer work)
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent writing skills
- Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills are an asset
- Experience working with people who are marginalized including people who are homeless, people who use substances, people with mental health issues, and new immigrants
- Knowledge of community resources, harm reduction and additional languages are assets
- Knowledge of food handling is an asset, First Aid & CPR, Mental Health First Aid
Salary: $20.00 an hour, plus 4% in lieu of vacation; plus transportation costs (TTC Presto cards) Hours: 35 hours a week for April 7, 2025 - August 29, 2025
