Duties & Responsibilities:
•Assist and support the Traditional Healers, Elders and Medicine People with a range of traditional healing approaches such as fasting, sweat lodge, shake tent, sacred fire, naming ceremony, clan ceremony and pipe ceremonies
•Facilitate client access to the Traditional Healers and ceremonies, ensuring that protocols are understood and met, and that traditional medicines are gathered, prepared, identified and stored
•Coordinate access for community members, staff and Aboriginal youth to the learning experience of traditional healing approaches
•Coordinate the accommodation and travel requirements of the Traditional Healers, assisting with the compilation of a data base, program reports and submissions, and maintaining an efficient and secure filing system
Qualifications:
•Demonstrating a commitment, respect, understanding and knowledge of Traditional Healing
•A positive, professional, courteous and respectful manner with a desire to help people find their healing path
•A team player with a knowledge and understanding of the health needs of urban Aboriginal people
•Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of the culture, traditions, teachings, ceremonies and practices of Aboriginal people will be considered an asset
