COMPENSATION: $50,409 - $59,904 range annually prorated
CONTRACT DURATION: until March 31, 2028

To help fulfill its mission, LOFT is hiring a Full-time Contract Peer Support Worker.


**Please note that this role may follow either a Tuesday to Saturday or Sunday to Thursday schedule, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.**


Job Summary


The Peer Support Worker position is open to those whom have lived experience with mental health and/or addiction and have gone through a process of recovery. The peer mentor is responsible to use their lived experience to assist others in the recovery process and to navigate the mental health and addiction systems. This would be accomplished through a variety of activities such as group facilitation, individual support, accompaniment with appointments and structured positive relationship building.

The MATCH- Housing First for Encampments (HF4E) team will provide targeted, assertive outreach supports specifically to 40 individuals currently residing in encampments in Toronto. HF4E is a City of Toronto funded research project, in collaboration with CAMH, COTA and Na-Me-Res.

MATCH, utilizes an interdisciplinary team model and a Housing First approach to support individuals who are homeless and living with mental health, physical health and substance use challenges.  The MATCH- HF4E team is comprised of a Psychiatry and Nursing provided by Inner City Health Associates (ICHA) and a Coordinator, Case Managers, Peer Support Workers, Personal Support Workers provided by LOFT.

What You Will Do

Provide one on one or group support to a number of clients experiencing homelessness living outdoors, in encampments or recently moved into housing

Establishing a supportive relationship, always

To accompany clients to various health and community appointments.

Help with goal setting, problem solving and emotional support

Work in collaboration with other program staff and community partners

Contribute to program development and implementation.

Facilitate and co-facilitate mental health/ recovery/treatment groups.

Have up-to date knowledge of local resources. Assist with referrals to support as needed.

To help ensure that clients are connecting with them and the rest of the team.

Guide clients to make choices that promote safety, wellness and recovery.

Positive role model and encouragement of others in the recovery process

Assist with group programs at various city locations

Attend training sessions and group meetings

Have regular supervision with coordinator and/ or program manager

Prepare and dismantle group/including light cleaning and trash removal

What You Bring:


Must Haves

Completion of peer training.

Experience/knowledge of mental health/ addictions systems.

Solid working knowledge of recovery principles.

Knowledge of community services and supports.

Some experience in peer support counselling.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong ability to work independently and on a team.

Enthusiastic problem solver, positive conflict resolution and goal setting practices.

Proficient computer skills.

Flexible availability.

Nice-to-Haves

Certified in WRAP is an asset

Work Environment:


Walk up and down stairs, physically able to assist client with daily living activities, regular travel to different locations with transit and/or own vehicle, outdoor travel, lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
