Plains Cree Language Teacher

Communiqeh is a Canadian, online language learning company that supports Canadians in learning Canada's official languages including English, French, Indigenous languages, and other languages that make up Canada's diverse linguistic landscape.

Position:  

• We are looking for exceptional communicators who know how to build strong relationships with people and who teach Plains Cree, to teach Beginner to Advanced Plains Cree to children and adults

Location: 

• Remote

Pay:

• $30/hour (CAD)

Scope: 

• Part-time to Full-time (flexible hours)

Schedule: 

• While teachers are free to set their own hours, we are in need of teachers to teach during business hours, Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm (Eastern Standard Time)

Responsibilities:

• Deliver private, 1:1 classes through video meetings
• Deliver customized, client-focused, conversation-based classes
• Flexibility adapt lessons and answer spontaneous questions about Plains Cree grammar and practical use in order to meet the client's specific needs
• Create engaging and immersive learning experiences that are fun and motivate the client to continue learning

Requirements:

• We ask that candidates:
  • Be legally able to work in Canada
  • Speak Plains Cree as a mother tongue (1st Language) or at a native level (2nd Language)
  • Speak English at a minimum level of Upper Intermediate (B2 CEFR)
  • Have the ability to work a minimum of 10 hours per week at least 3 days per week

• Believe in a “coaching” approach to learning for all ages (i.e. practical goal-setting, confidence building, and motivational learning)

• Be passionate about expanding the use of the Plains Cree language to all Canadians

Assets (nice to have but not essential and candidates without will be considered):

• Ability to speak French at an Intermediate level (B1-B2 CEFR)

Technical Requirements:

• A laptop or personal computer less than 5 years old
• A strong and stable internet connection with download and upload speeds of at least 10 mbsp

Environmental Requirements:

• A quiet place to work where class time with clients will not be interrupted
