The Quality Assurance Specialist is located in either Pickering and/or Bowmanville and typically reports directly to the QA Director. The QA Specialist is responsible for ensuring the integrity, quality, and regulatory compliance of all pressure boundary components procured or fabricated for the organization. This role provides technical oversight throughout the procurement lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on source surveillance, supplier quality management, and alignment with in-house procurement processes. The specialist acts as the subject matter expert for codes, standards, and inspection requirements related to pressure boundary items.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and coordinate source surveillance activities at supplier facilities to verify conformance with technical requirements, regulatory codes, and procurement specifications.
- Review and approve supplier quality plans, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and fabrication records or code procedures as applicable.
- Identify and address quality gaps, nonconformances, or risks during manufacturing and inspection phases
- Ensure that procurement documentation includes adequate surveillance scopes, testing requirements, acceptance criteria, and documentation expectations.
- Collaborate closely with procurement teams to translate technical and code requirements into clear, enforceable purchase requisitions and contract documents.
- Serve as the organizational expert on pressure boundary requirements
- Validate supplier capability to meet pressure boundary design, fabrication, and testing obligations.
- Participate in audits, surveillance reports, and corrective action tracking
- Conduct QA site estimates for PNG & DNG

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- College diploma or university degree in Engineering, Technology, Quality, or a related discipline.
- National Board training/certification in “A” or “N” Commission is considered an asset.
- CSA W178.2 Certification is considered an asset.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in quality control, with a preference for experience in the nuclear industry.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Extensive knowledge of nuclear codes and standards, including ASME III, CSA N285, CSA N299/ N286, B51, ASME B31.1&3 and ISO standards.
- Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in fostering collaboration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant technologies.
- OPG Security Clearance requirements.

COMPENSATION
The expected annual salary range for this role is between $115,000 and $145,000. The starting salary will be based on several factors such as the successful candidate’s qualifications, including but not limited to education, experience and overall competencies. Salary is one component of Black & McDonald’s total rewards package. Total rewards vary by position and may include additional offerings such as group insurance benefits, pension plan, annual performance bonus, and career development programs.
