About Us 

The “Eshkiniigjik Naandwechigegamig - A Place for Healing Our Youth" – “Aabiish Gaa Binjibaaying – Where Did We Come From?” is an Indigenous Youth Agency dedicated to providing programming and services to support Indigenous youth in North America. Our mission is to help them become responsible, participating citizens while leading their Indigenous communities.

Under the supervision of the Childcare Manager, the Registered Early Childhood Educator will perform the below duties:  

  • Plan, develop, and implement developmentally appropriate programs for children from birth to six years of age that support holistic learning and well-being;
  • Design and deliver programming that incorporates Indigenous perspectives, including language, culture, land-based learning, community connections, and nutrition;
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed learning environment that reflects the needs of Indigenous children and families;
  • Observe, document, and assess children’s development to support individual learning goals and program planning;
  • Promote children’s physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and language development through play-based learning experiences;
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all children in accordance with Child Care Licensing Standards and organizational policies;
  • Build respectful, collaborative relationships with families to support children’s development and encourage family engagement;
  • Provide guidance, resources, and support to parents and caregivers, including referrals to community services when appropriate;
  • Prepare and maintain learning environments, materials, and equipment to support daily programming;
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, routines, and transitions;
  • Maintain accurate records, including children’s files, developmental observations, and incident documentation while ensuring confidentiality;
  • Work collaboratively with team members, management, and community partners to support program goals;
  • Assist with program promotion, outreach, and community engagement initiatives;
  • Adhere to all program policies, procedures, and ethical standards, including those of the ENAGB Youth Program and the College of Early Childhood Educators;
  • Maintain professionalism, ongoing reflective practice, and continuous learning consistent with RECE professional standards;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

To ensure the successful delivery of the program, we require the following qualifications: 

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators;
  • Must have knowledge of child development, ELECT (Early Learning for Every Child Today), AQI (Assessment for Quality Improvement), How Does Learning Happen?, and Child Care Licensing Standards;
  • Minimum two years of experience supporting parents/caregivers and/or their children from birth to six years of age is preferred;
  • Must have knowledge of Inuit, Metis, and/or First Nation culture and the historical experiences of Indigenous communities;
  • Fluency in an Indigenous language and knowledge of Indigenous cultures is an asset; 
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position;
  • A valid Standard First Aid and CPR. 
  • A cleared Vulnerable Sector Screening, or ability to obtain during hiring processes. 
  • A positive, fun-loving attitude;
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while demonstrating initiative and self-motivation.
