The Sexual Assault Counsellor (SAC) is under the direction of the Shelter Director, or  designate, of Anduhyaun Inc. The SAC is responsible for developing, implementing, delivering,  managing, and evaluating programs for Anduhyaun’s Shelter clients and Nekenaan Second Stage Housing tenants to ensure that they are supported in maintaining and growing in their cultural identity as Indigenous peoples. The goal of the SAC at Anduhyaun is to provide culturally-sensitive counselling for Indigenous individuals who have experienced sexual abuse and other trauma. The SAC will guide programs in a manner that is  consistent with Anduhyaun's mandate: 

To support Indigenous women and their children in their efforts to maintain  their cultural identity, self-esteem, economic, physical, and spiritual well-being. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Plan and implement cultural programming and life skills programming  
  • Conduct goal and safety planning with tenants 
  • Maintain regular contact with clients and tenants, helping them access community resources
  • Provide counselling services to residents and tenants
  • Communicate clearly with the Shelter Director, or designate 
  • Maintain accurate electronic and manual filing of all correspondence and documents
  • Ensure documentation of all interactions with clients and tenants 
  • Ensure all requirements of service contract are met 
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports to the Shelter Director, or designate 
  • Adhere to Anduhyaun Policies and Procedures, especially regarding Confidentiality 

Other Duties: 

  • Assist with special occasions and functions at Anduhyaun Inc., such as, annual meeting, special fundraising events, holiday gift distribution, etc.
  • Attend community meetings representing Anduhyaun, as required
  • Assist in orientation of new staff members
  • Provide aftercare programming on-site for up to one year

Hours of Work/Hourly Rate: 

  • Hours: 40 hours per week 
  • May be a possibility of some evening and/or weekend work 
  • Compensation: $23.00 per hour + standard benefits package

Additional Requirements: 

  • Masters of Social Work or equivalent preferred
  • Must have or be able to acquire a clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check 
  • Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 as per Anduhyaun’s Vaccination Policy 
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture is considered an asset 
  • Experience in administrative role is considered an asset 
  • Excellent communication skills
