The Centre for Indigenous Theatre exists to provide theatrical training informed by traditional artistic expression, teaching and values, while creating an environment that encourages cultural exchange of practices and techniques between Indigenous Nations and communities.
The Centre for Indigenous Theatre embraces the spirit, energy and inspiration derived from the culture, values and traditions of Indigenous people. From these roots, we seek to elaborate a contemporary Indigenous performance culture through training and professional development opportunities for emerging and established Indigenous theatre artists.
Duties:
CIT is seeking a valuable addition to its team supporting the organization's outreach and community development efforts. This role is significant in having a positive impact on the future of the organization.
The successful candidate will be responsible for national and GTA specific outreach which will allow the organization to explore its reach and build new partnerships while enhancing current ones. The successful candidate will:
Build Personal and Organizational Capacity in the area of Outreach and Community Relationships
Coordinate activities associated with various community engagement workshops and intensives both nationally and in the GTA
Coordinate project and programming related to visiting artist lectures/workshops and provide support to special workshops
Work with community partners to engage youth participants
Work with Principal and Artistic Director to coordinate promoting productions, shows, workshops and events
Supporting social media activities, monthly newsletters, updating the MailChimp database, updating the website, event statistics tracking, and merch inventory management and sales
Develop project plans, schedules and outcomes and discuss and follow up with the Managing Director
Foster and facilitate project outcomes
Outreach to collaborate and build partnership with Indigenous communities nationally [new and existing partners]
Create strong communication links between all parties involved in projects
Develop networks and connections within the Indigenous performing arts community and non-profit sector
Work directly with other social service and arts organizations serving Indigenous groups in Toronto and nationally, to develop partnerships
Coordinate and support attending APSIP tours, career fairs, Pow Wow and other outreach events
Participate in grant writing for programming and project continuity and sustainability as well as project financial management, budgeting, expense tracking and funding reporting
Required Skills & Experience:
Strong problem-solving, written and verbal communication, organizational and coordination skills
Possesses a resourceful, self-sufficient and mature demeanor
Exhibits a knowledge and keenness for digital technology
Experience with Zoom, Microsoft Office Suite & Google Suite
20 years & older and/or Post Secondary graduate
Driver's License with 24 – 36 months of driving experience and clean driver's abstract
Ability and desire to work with Indigenous youth and artists in a culturally sensitive manner
Knowledge of Photoshop Suite and Squarespace an asset
Understanding of Indigenous practices and knowledge base
Understanding of Indigenous Arts Community an asset
Experience in project coordination, development and delivery an asset
Potential candidates must be First Nations, Inuit or Metis and reside within the GTA
Must be registered or eligible to register with Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training
