Project Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Thunder Bay, the Gambling Harm Reduction Coordinator will lead the Pathways to Balance Project — a culturally grounded, year-long initiative focused on preventing and reducing gambling-related harms among Indigenous youth. Rooted in Indigenous values, harm reduction, and youth empowerment, the project combines weekly workshops, seasonal land-based retreats, and peer-led outreach to build awareness, strengthen identity, and connect youth to culturally safe supports.

Job Responsibilities

• Develop and manage an implementation strategy for the Pathways to Balance Project and meet its goals and objectives.

• Conduct needs assessments with Indigenous youth (12-29) and the Thunder Bay Youth Council.
• Coordinate and deliver weekly youth workshops, peer-led sessions, lunch-and-learns, and one land-based retreat per season.
• Demonstrate knowledge and facilitate discussions on gambling harm reduction strategies, including identifying risk signs, addressing stigma, and supporting youth with balanced, strengths-based approaches.
• Collaborate with community partners and Indigenous service organizations for referral pathways.
• Develop tracking tools for participant progress and engagement.
• Develop and maintain trusting relationships with youth participants, creating culturally safe spaces where they feel seen, heard, and supported.
• Collaborate with Elders, knowledge keepers, ENAGB staff and clinicians to ensure programming reflects Indigenous teachings, trauma-informed practice, and culturally safe wellness approaches.
• Support development of youth-created gambling harm prevention materials, such as zines, videos, or toolkits—helping youth express what they’ve learned in creative and impactful ways.
• Lead community outreach for ENAGB at local events, distributing culturally relevant harm reduction toolkits/resources to youth at risk of gambling harm, ensuring access to clear, stigma-free education and support materials.
• Collect and manage evaluation data, including participant attendance, feedback surveys, and storytelling quotes or images, in collaboration with the project team. Create a detailed final report on program impact and challenges. 

Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline or a combination of work experience of at least 2-3 years in related fields. 
• Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures and community dynamics.
• Experience in designing and delivering youth programming, particularly within Indigenous communities.
• Knowledge or training in Indigenous health and/or gambling prevention.
• Experience with trauma-informed care and youth wellness strategies.
• Skill in arts-based programming, media creation, and storytelling.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and build trust with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficient with digital platforms for communication and promotion.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
• Adequate energy and ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
• Cleared Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSC) are mandatory.
• Positive attitude, self-motivation, and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Employment Details

Salary: $30/hr

Hours: 30 hours/week, Tuesday to Friday

Contract Duration: July 21, 2025 - July 1, 2026
