Job Summary: Under the direction of the Supervisor of Mental Health, the School Mental Health Worker is responsible for providing support to the students and staff of Lloyd S. King Elementary School and the Mississauga of the Credit First Nation (MCFN) students of Hagersville Secondary School.
Education and Experience:
• Degree in Social Work with 2 years of counselling with children and youth
• Or Diploma in Social Work or Child and Youth Worker with 5 years of counselling experience with children and youth
• Registered Social Worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers/Social Service Workers or other College of Psychotherapists
Knowledge:
• Be knowledgeable about Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation’s culture and social structure
• Be familiar with traditional Indigenous approaches to healing
• Have extensive knowledge of therapeutic intervention and of the range of evidence-based treatment modalities that are employed in prevention
• Working knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act
• Solid background in computers with specific knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Skills/Abilities:
• To work cooperatively with other staff and management
• Relate effectively to community members
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
Other Requirements:
• Class “G” Drivers licence
• Must have a satisfactory result from a Criminal Record Check including a vulnerable sector check.
• Certification in First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain by the end of the probationary period
• Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends
Assets:
• Experience working with children in an educational/School setting
• SAFE talk and ASIST training
