Purpose: The Student Success Facilitators is responsible in providing support, services and guidance to students in achieving their academic and personal goals and to ensure a successful learning experience, student retention, program completion in order for Miziwe Biik to achieve its mission of providing training and employment services to the Indigenous peoples in the Greater Toronto Area so that they in turn attain a better quality of life.
Reports to: Vickie Labranche, Special Project Manager
Responsibilities
Act as a point of contact and liaison between students, teachers and other members of the team and maintain an on-going communication addressing inquires and resolving on-site challenges promptly.
Serve as the onsite lead and primary point of contact.
Establish and maintain positive and supportive relationships to ensure that students fully participate in the program to achieve their goals.
Become familiar with the strengths, abilities, barriers, and challenges, with non-academic issues and referring to appropriate services and resources.
Assist student in accessing high school transcripts.
Assist student to register for ILC courses liaison on their behalf, if required.
Support and direct students with accessing financial resources that fit their needs: Band funding, Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program, Employment Insurance.
Assist in the coordination, and delivery of the Pre-Health Program: Academic success, skills development, career exploration.
Ensure a safe and secure environment for students and other members of the team.
Organize special events e.g. milestones of the program.
Take a lead role in the enrolment process, responding to general program information, registration process, and completing relevant forms.
Organize all aspects of delivery session including set-up virtual classroom, PowerPoint, ordering books and other learning materials, technical equipment needed such projector, laptops, arrange for snacks, coffee/tea.
Facilitate virtual classroom through video-conferencing platforms.
Prepare and collate feedback for student evaluations.
Document attendance and submit stipend.
Document student/teacher feedback, and session/program outcomes.
Maintain organized and orderly records of each student.
Collaboratively oversee client progress and remediation strategies.
Jointly hold team meetings, coach, resolve conflict.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Relevant 2-year diploma with experience, preferably in an Indigenous educational environment, or a combination of education, training and experience.
Experience with Indigenous clients and organizations and knowledge of the Indigenous community.
Strong interpersonal and relationship skills; able to establish trust and respect
Strong coaching and facilitation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Outlook, Zoom, Microsoft Teams and G-Suite.
Deep understanding of the strengths, challenges, and barriers faced by Indigenous people
First Nations, Métis or Inuit background.
