The Native Canadian Centre of Toronto (NCCT) is a non-profit, charitable organization located in the heart of
downtown Toronto. The NCCT offers a wide range of Indigenous programs and services based on Indigenous
cultural traditions and teachings.
Job Title: Part-Time Retail Sales Associate
Employment Term, & Work Hours: Part-Time, Monday to Friday 20 hours per week with occasional work time
changes during special events/markets.
Hourly Wage: $18.00/Hour
Department: Cedar Basket
Report To: Senior Retail Operations Associate
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and community-minded Indigenous student to join our team as a Part-Time Retail
Sales Associate with The Cedar Basket. The Cedar Basket is an Indigenous youth-led Social Enterprise that
combines on-the-job training and paid work experience with the promotion of Indigenous crafts, culture, and
community history.
Youth will gain valuable retail, customer service, sales, and workplace skills that support long-term career
readiness. This opportunity is designed to help participants build confidence, strengthen employability, and
work toward stable employment in the high-demand retail sector, while contributing to a welcoming space that
celebrates Indigenous knowledge, creativity, and culture.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Greet and assist customers in a friendly, respectful, and culturally welcoming manner
• Promote and sell Indigenous-made products while sharing knowledge about their cultural significance
• Operate point-of-sale systems, handle cash, and process transactions accurately
• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming retail space
• Assist with stocking, merchandising, and inventory organization
• Participate in training sessions focused on retail skills, customer service, and workplace readiness
• Work collaboratively with team members and mentors in a supportive, youth-led environment
• Follow health, safety, and loss-prevention guidelines

• Represent The Cedar Basket in a positive way that reflects Indigenous values, community, and culture
• Engage in skill-building activities that support long-term employability and personal development
Qualifications
• Indigenous youth aged 16–24 who identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis
• Interest in retail, customer service, sales, or learning workplace skills
• Community-minded and respectful of Indigenous cultures, knowledge, and traditions
• Willingness to learn and participate in on-the-job training and mentorship
• Ability to work part-time hours, including occasional evenings or weekends
• Comfortable interacting with the public in a customer-facing role (with support as needed)
• Reliable and willing to follow workplace policies, schedules, and expectations
• Lived experience with housing insecurity, addiction, and/or mental health challenges is welcomed and
supported
• No prior retail experience required — training will be provided
Working Conditions
• Must be flexible to work on variable time schedules during the week and/or on weekends
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift and carry items regularly and comfortably navigate stairs when required, following the
role's demands in Ontario.

This is a full-time position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Although preference will be given
